The Creality K2 Plus Strain Gauge is the precision leveling sensor that makes automatic bed leveling on the K2 Series so accurate. Unlike traditional probes that measure from a separate sensor offset from the nozzle, strain gauge leveling uses the nozzle itself as the probe — measuring the exact point where filament will be deposited. The sensor detects micro-deflections when the nozzle contacts the bed surface, enabling the printer to map the build plate with exceptional precision for perfect first layers every time.

How Strain Gauge Leveling Works
Traditional bed probes (like BLTouch or inductive sensors) measure from a point offset from the nozzle, requiring careful calibration of the probe-to-nozzle distance. Strain gauge leveling takes a fundamentally different approach: the hotend is mounted on a strain gauge bracket that measures the tiny forces created when the nozzle contacts the bed surface.
When the nozzle touches the build plate, the strain gauge bracket experiences micro-deformation. This deformation is detected by the sensor, which signals the firmware that contact has been made. Because the measurement happens at the nozzle tip itself, there's no probe offset to calibrate — the system measures exactly where your first layer will be printed.
Advantages of Strain Gauge Leveling
- Zero Probe Offset: No calibration of probe-to-nozzle distance required
- Universal Surface Compatibility: Works with any bed surface — glass, PEI, textured plates
- Direct Measurement: Measures at the exact point where filament will be deposited
- Consistent Results: Reliable feedback for accurate Z-height positioning across the entire bed
When to Replace the Strain Gauge
- Inconsistent auto-leveling results or failed probing sequences
- First layer adhesion problems that persist after bed cleaning
- Z-height varies across the bed despite successful leveling
- Visible damage to the strain gauge bracket or cable
- Error messages related to leveling sensor during homing
What's in the Box
- K2 Plus Strain Gauge ×1
Ideal For
- Replacing a faulty or damaged strain gauge sensor
- Restoring accurate auto-leveling performance
- Resolving inconsistent first-layer adhesion issues
- Spare parts inventory for K2 Series printers
Installation Notes
The strain gauge mounts above the hotend heatsink using four M3 screws. When installing, ensure the cable terminal is inserted vertically into the hole with the white glued side facing down and the black flat side facing up. A H2.0 hexagonal wrench is required. Creality provides detailed replacement tutorials via the Creality Wiki and Creality Cloud. After installation, run a calibration sequence to ensure proper function.
Keep your K2 Series printer leveling with precision. The strain gauge is the heart of the automatic bed leveling system — when it works correctly, you get perfect first layers without the hassle of manual calibration or probe offset adjustments.
