Auto bed leveling would have to be among one of the most popular upgrades to 3D printers with the BL Touch being the most popular sensor on the market. The BL Touch is a semiconductor hall sensor that uses a pushpin probe which comes in contact with the bed then building a mesh of the area. Once a mesh of the area is created your printer is able to use this data to move the Z axis either up or down to accommodate for any tilt or warps in your build plate. With a standard deviation of just 0.005mm, the BL Touch is able to have the nozzle extrude filament at the exact same height, resulting in better first layer adhesion and more consistent layer lines.

BL Touch vs Other Bed Leveling Sensors:

The BL Touch uses a probe to make contact with the bed. While an induction sensor uses magnetic fields. Using a probe instead of induction allows you to use any material you wish as a build surface, while induction you are limited to steel. One other component used for bed leveling is the simple micro switch. While being the cheapest in doesn't compare to the BL Touch with its 0.005mm standard deviation and retractable probe that deploys and stows when not in use. Buying genuine BL Touch will ensure you are buying a quality product with high standards in manufacturing.
