BigTreeTech Smart Filament Runout Sensor vs Switch Type Sensor:

A simple switch type sensor only has two positions, on and off. This means it is only capable of detecting breaks in the filament. If the filament runs out the switch will simply go into the off position prompting the printer to pause. With the Big Tree Tech Smart Filament Runout Sensor it is capable of detecting breaks as well as flow. So for example, your filament spool becomes tangled making your extruder unable to draw any more filament, the BTT Smart Sensor will detect this abnormality in the flow and halt your printer. With a switch type the switch is unable to detect flow, therefor it will continue to try to print, slowly grinding away filament into your extruder gears causing more issues. The BTT Smart Sensor is made to be compatible with all controller boards with filament runout sensor ports.
